The F-84 was the first practical jet designed and produced by Republic.
The Thunderjet was designed to serve as an interceptor near the end of WWII.
In September of 1946 a prototype of the F-84 set a new airspeed record at
978kmh. The G-type was introduced in 1952 during the Korean conflict and was
matched by the formidable MiG. The F-84 still served well in ground attack
situations.
