The VIKINGESKIB, dating from approximately 1000 A.D. was found in Roskilde inlet in Denmark in 1957. Together with four other shipwrecks, all covered with stones, the VIKINGESKIB formed an obstruction of the inlet, protecting the town of Roskilde from innovation. this primitive, but effective, barrier was built by the Vikings in about 1050 A.D. The wrecks were raised in 1962. After a thorough preservation of the material, a reconstruction of the ships has been possible. Today, the ships are on view at the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde.
