The Coast Guard 44 foot 'Motor Life Boat' is a high endurance boat designed to perform search and rescue missions and effect rescues under adverse weather and sea conditions. With a properly qualified and experienced operator, it is a capable boat for surf and sandbar conditions. It is self bailing and self righting. Built by the Coast Guard Yard in Curtis Bay Maryland, the first 44 foot MLB was put into service in 1961. Significantly, of the 110 boats of this type built, only one has been taken out of service, attesting to the durability of the design. Four MLBs have been sold to foreign governments and 105 remain in service with the US Coast Guard.
This model is a 1:40 scale model of ABS construction and includes all required fittings.
